Exercises for a Flat Stomach

To get going with flat stomach exercises for your upper abdominals, you can begin by using normal crunches.  To do this properly, bend your knees at a 90 degree angle while lying flat on your back.  Now, you can put your arms crossed over your chest, or keep your hands up near your ears, which ever is more comfortable.  Lift your shoulders off the floor, and try to make your chest reach your knees using your abdominal muscles.  It can be beneficial to fix your eyes on the ceiling while performing this movement.  The upper abdominals are really stressed while doing this specific exercise.  Set a goal of 15 to 30 reps for 3 to 4 sets.

The reverse crunch is the second exercise that will help you achieve a flat stomach.  This drill will use the lower abs as the primary focal point.  Lying flat on your back again, you should put your hands either behind your head or on the ground at your sides.  Knees will be bent at 90 degrees, but now you should keep your feet about 6 inches off of the ground.  This time bring your knees to your chest.  Be sure to use your abdominal muscles to lift your knees, not swinging your legs to let momentum do the work.  Now put your legs back to their starting position slowly.  Again try for 15 to 30 repetitions and do this for 3 or 4 sets.

The oblique crunch, which target the abdominal oblique muscles, will be the last of the flat stomach exercises we will focus on.  You will start in almost the same position as the traditional crunch, but instead place your foot on the other knee.  Place the hand opposite the knee behind your ear, and your other hand on the floor next to your side.  Twist your torso to move your shoulder to the opposite knee.  For example, right shoulder to left knee.  It may feel awkward at first, but it is very effective at targeting the oblique region.  Perform this exercise on both sides for about 15 to 30 reps and do 3 or 4 sets.

After you form the habit of performing these flat stomach exercises, you will want to give attention to healthy eating.  You are probably already aware that there are some foods that are more prone to put on fat, and some foods that are more prone to help you shed the fat tissue.  Begin using this information to do these exercises regularly, and you will soon achieve the flat stomach you are looking for.
